Description

Wilhelm Hermann Hammig Violin, Leipzig 1892

Price available on request

This violin was made in Leipzig in 1892 by Wilhelm Hermann Hammig, a maker associated with the German violin making tradition of the late nineteenth century.

Hammig was born in Markneukirchen in Saxony, a town internationally recognised for violin making. After working in cities such as Berlin and Amsterdam, he settled in Leipzig, where he became closely connected with the city’s musical life, including the Conservatoire and the Gewandhaus tradition.

By the time this violin was made, Hammig had decades of experience behind him. This instrument comes from his later period and reflects the maturity and confidence of his work, both in construction and tonal balance.

The violin has a clear, focused voice with good projection and warmth, well suited to both solo and ensemble playing. It responds easily under the bow and offers a sound that develops well across registers.
