Bow Rehairing
I offer a professional bow rehairing service from my workshop at home in Ravensdale. I use quality horsehair, properly tensioned and fitted to bring your bow back to its full playing condition. A well-rehaired bow makes a significant difference to your tone, grip, and overall control.
I rehair bows for violin, viola, and cello. If your bow is feeling sluggish, losing grip, or just not responding the way it should, bring it in and I will have a look at it. Contact me to arrange a time.
Violin Repairs and Restoration
I carry out all violin repairs and restoration work at my home studio in Ravensdale, where I have the tools and materials to do the work properly. I have been repairing and restoring instruments for many years and work on everything from student violins to fine older instruments.
Repair work I carry out includes:
- Crack repairs and seam re-gluing
- Bridge fitting and adjustment
- Neck resets
- Fingerboard planing and dressing
- String setup and nut adjustment
- Peg fitting and peghole repair
- Soundpost setting and adjustment
- Varnish touch-ups and cosmetic restoration
Every instrument is treated with care. If you are not sure what your violin needs, bring it along and I will take a look and give you an honest assessment.
Violins for Sale
I have a selection of fine French and German violins from the last century available for sale. These are instruments I have personally selected and set up to a high standard, suitable for the serious student or advancing player who wants a quality instrument without paying collector prices.
A fine instrument currently available is the Wilhelm Hermann Hammig violin, Leipzig 1892, made in Leipzig by a maker closely connected with the Conservatoire and Gewandhaus tradition. It has a clear, focused voice with good projection and warmth. Price available on request.
I also carry a range of beginner and improver outfits in sizes 1/16 to 4/4, with violin, bow, and case. You can browse all available instruments in the shop. Everything I sell has been checked and set up by me before it leaves.
