Bridging Classical String Training and Irish Traditional Music
GO Strings Initiative is an educational performance concept developed by myself
Gerry O'Connor and Hillary Wagner. Our goal is to invite classically trained bowed string instrument players to authentic traditional Irish fiddle music.
Starting from the classical strengths of strong reading and quick adaptation, GO Strings provides clearly written scores paired with original audio video samples performed by Gerry O'Connor and GO Quintet, a private pre-program video fiddle lesson with Gerry for the teacher, and include complete lesson plans for every tune in the concert program, bridging the gap to this cherished, world favorite, fiddle custom.
What GO Strings is
GO Strings is built for classically trained string players who want a clear entry point into Irish traditional music. It keeps the strengths you already have, then adds the skills that shape traditional performance, such as lift, phrasing, articulation, ornamentation, and ensemble feel.
